WordPress Gallery

On 14, Jul 2011 | 67 Comments | In FCW WordPress Plugins | By Andy

WordPress gallery provides a simple interface for uploading images, editing them and having them displayed on the front end of your site via a shortcode or a function call.

The front end gallery can be configured in the following ways-

  • Height and width of your gallery.
  • Transition effect.
  • Transition time.
  • Optional lightbox effect to original image.
  • Choose whether or not to display a "pager" which can contain nothing (just empty squares), numbers or thumbnails. Thumbnail sizes are configurable.
  • Order the images by dragging them.

Uploading images is done through a simple interface that allows you to upload multiple images at once (only limited by your server's execution time and maximum file size). You can then edit the image to adjust crop, scale and rotation. Any changes you make to an image can be easily reverted back to the original image at any time.

If you have an Amazon S3 account your images will be uploaded there saving bandwidth and storage costs.

  1. Hi there! I downloaded this pluggin too and completely stunned to see that it’s easy and hassle free! Seriously, i’m loving wordpress thanks to you guys! Any news on how to add caption or make it visible underneath the thumbnails?

    Thanks again for your help:)

    • Andy

Hey. This plugin is not currently available in the repo. So you must have an old version. In the next couple of months we will be refurbishing all of our plugins as well as the support system. :-)

  2. I have version 0.41 installed and people using it can’t use the [gallery] feature of WP to display photos because the [gallery] instead gives them your gallery.
Is there a way to update to a version where this clash is resolved without losing all the existing settings and content?
    Thanks
    John

    • Andy

      Hi John,

Yes there is. Unfortunately WordPress have pulled WordPress Gallery from the repo so you cant actually update yet.Im working on this with them and hopefully it will be resolved soon. If you subscribe to my WordPress plugin mailing list you can be notified of its re-release. Sign up here – http://eepurl.com/lN2HH

      Thanks!

  3. The div I am looking for is: div id=”wordpress_gallery”. I don’t know why it didn’t show in the last comment. lol

    • fish

      Hey Ricardo,

That div is generated in includes/class-wordpress-gallery-display.php on line 72.

      Have fun!

  4. Hi, I love your plugin! Unfortunately I need to format the gallery to my needs, but I can’t find where the is generated. Could someone please tell me exactly where the div is created so that I can add some styles?

Thanks in advance, keep up the good work!

  5. I installed this update and cleared the albums and now don’t fuction please help me!!!!

    • fish

Is this still happening? Are you getting any errors on screen? Could you tell me a little more about what is happening?

  6. please help me!!!!!!! don’t fuction. I upload images but not album created.

  7. Hi there. I was looking forward to using your gallery, but am getting error warnings:

    http://www.mediafire.com/i/?cjq59znirmy5b5d

Also, when uploading, it says to link an image to a url… what kind of url? A page, a post, a bigger copy of the image? Thank you.

    • fish

Those warnings should be fixed in the latest version. If not you can turn off debugging in your wp-config.php file. :-)

The url field is where you would like the user to go if they click on the image. The link can be anything at all.

  8. I was just wondering if there was a timescale for your new update with the ability to upload multiple galleries? I’m a photographer and absolutely love your plugin – it’s easy to use and most importantly it displays photos beautifully. Unfortunately I need to upload more than one gallery to my site so for now will have to use another inferior plugin!

    • fish

      Hi Josephine,

Thanks ever so much! Im really glad you like the plugin!

I am crazy busy at the moment but now that you have said that i’ll put the multiple galleries to the top of my list of to do’s. Sorry I can’t be more specific!

  9. Hi, I love this plugin! Unfortunately I need to format the gallery to my needs, but I can’t find where the <div id=”wordpress_gallery”> is generated. Could someone please tell me exactly where the div is created so that I can add some styles? Or if there is a simple way to change alignment and position on the page?

Thanks in advance, keep up the good work

  10. Tested with: default theme, no other WP plugin activated

  11. OK, it worked on Google Chrome but not in FF for me. Maybe a FF plugin is in conflict but I have no courage to desactivate them all…

  12. Great work on the Plugin Andy! I use is on many of my sites!

  13. It was a test blog so no other plugin activated and Twenty Ten theme. I will make another test to verify. Tested with FF, IE and Google Chrome.

  14. seems to be working for me. COuld you tell me what other plugins you are running?

  15. looking in to this now

  16. Drag and drop for order and edit images do not work on WP 3.2.1 on a test blog.

  17. Yvette

Your gallery really looks good! Is there any possibility to use different pictures on different pages in the gallery? I saw some galleries that used an exclude function. This because I have some product pages and would like to add a gallery with different photos tot each page.

    • FCW

      Hi yvette

At the moment there is only one gallery I’m afraid. The ability to add multiple galleries will come in an update soon.
      :-)

  18. Derek

Plugin is amazing! Great to hand over to the client…. One question, how can you properly use this in a page template? I’ve tried but keep getting errors. Will provide detailed info if requested

    • FCW

      Hey Derek

To use it in a theme file use the following function call-

      < ?php wordpress_gallery(); ?>.

      That’s it!

I’m really glad you find the plugin useful. Any suggestions or feature requests are most welcome!

  19. I have embed the gallery into theme.when site is opened for first time than all images of the slideshow are displayed in a vertical row.Is there any way to reduce the load time or show images only when they are completely downloaded in the slideshow?

    • FCW

That’s a really good point. Unfortunately not at the moment but we could certainly do something clever like hide the div until the gallery is initiated. I’ll stick that in an update soon. :-)
